When I was nine, my teacher Mrs McNamara wrote on my report card that “young Tadhg reads well aloud.”
It was the first hint that broadcasting might one day be my calling.
Combine that with a teenage fascination for retail and consumer brands, and my path into business and economics journalism was set.

Today, I present to audiences worldwide on BBC News - a privilege I revel in each time I go on air.
I honed my skills in breaking news at Sky News, at Ireland’s public service broadcaster RTÉ, and on factual television with RTÉ’s The Consumer Show.
